AMERICAN EXPRESS PLANS LIVE AUDIO WEBCAST OF THE THIRD QUARTER EARNINGS CONFERENCE CALL

NEW YORK, October 07, 2009 -- American Express plans to host a live audio webcast of its investor conference call at 5:00 pm (ET) on Thursday, October 22, 2009 to discuss third quarter 2009 financial results. The company's financial results are scheduled to be announced shortly after the market closes that day.

Live audio webcast and presentation slides for the investor conference call will be accessible to the general public at http://ir.americanexpress.com.
