![]() How you can take advantage of travel opportunities this spring Vacation travel by Americans is on the upswing. A poll conducted nationwide among American Express travel agencies in March shows a steady increase in consumer travel since September 2001. The popularity of cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean as well as tour packages, are seen as responsible for this growth. Disney resorts, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Mexico are the most popular destinations. Are you thinking about a vacation trip soon? If so, you might want to review the results of a poll of American Express Travel Service locations, and visit some of the travel resources available on the Internet. Look for great values and special offers. Researchers found that current prices, often discounted, are very attractive to travel consumers. In addition, many of the packages and cruises offer free night stays, Gift Cheques, or cabin or room upgrades. There are two ways to discover where the good spring travel values are - by working with your travel agent or searching the Internet. Poll results revealed that customers find significant value in the ability of travel agents to help them look for the best deals, research destinations, comparison shop and book travel. A growing number of travelers monitor current opportunities on the Web before booking their trips. Depend on travel resources. The Web also offers a useful array of travel tools and advice, including passport and visa service, currency and clothing size conversion charts (for international trips), and inflight airline tracking. Stay up-to-date. Another benefit of the Internet is its ability to disseminate the latest information to consumers in a timely manner. For example, one informative Travel Update is updated every day. This site includes sections on airport and inflight security, State Department advisories, changes in airline service and scheduling, and a directory of phone numbers. There are helpful tips for air travelers, a review of check-in procedures, and a list of helpful travel related Web sites, for example: Federal Aviation Administration. The American Express Poll was conducted by e-mail during March 2002 with responses from 70 American Express-owned Travel Service locations. It looked at leisure travel destinations, means of transportation and spending. April 11, 2002
