A new way to get the travelers cheques you need for your trip

For nearly 110 years, American Express Travelers Cheques have provided consumers with the safest way to carry travel funds. Now there are more different ways than ever to obtain the cheques you need: in person at banks, credit unions and AAA offices, at an American Express Travel Service location near you; by phone if you are an American Express Cardmember (1-800-721-9768) – and, even over the Internet using your American Express Card, VisaŽ or MasterCardŽ.

As always, ‘better than cash’

We’re all familiar with the benefits of American Express Travelers Cheques & Cheques for Two (the latter have a dual-signature format that enables two travelers to share the same cheques):

  • If lost or stolen, they can be replaced easily, usually within 24 hours.
  • They’re widely accepted – in the U.S., they can be used like cash at retail locations, hotels and restaurants. Outside the U.S., they can be used like cash at many locations or exchanged for local currency at banks, currency exchanges and American Express Travel Service locations.
  • And there’s another benefit: You can set your travel budget before leaving, purchase the appropriate amount in travelers cheques and keep track of what you’ve used along the way. Many travelers find this makes it easier to manage their spending.

How to purchase cheques online

It’s now easy and convenient to order the cheques you need, directly from your computer, through American Express and its partner, checks-on-line, Inc.

Currently, Travelers Cheques & Cheques for Two are available online in U.S. dollar denominations of $20, $50, and $100. There is a $10 fee for each order, plus a delivery fee dictated by your choice of delivery option :

  • $3.95 for First Class U.S. Mail, which will deliver your order in from seven to 10 business days
  • $9.95 for 2nd Day Courier, which requires two business days
  • $12.95 for Overnight Delivery

Deliveries to some locations may require an extra day, and the courier and overnight services will not deliver to P.O. boxes and require a signature to release packages.

To transact your purchase, you can use all American Express Cards (except for the American Express Corporate Card) as well as MasterCardŽ and VisaŽ.
