![]() Versatile Holiday Gifts in Very Small Packages How would you describe the perfect holiday gift? Shouldnt it be something that the recipient really wants, from a store that he or she particularly likes? An item guaranteed to be the right color and the right size, because the person getting the present will be the one choosing it? And shouldnt the perfect gift be easy to deliver, whether across town or across country? Finally, when it arrives, wouldnt it be great if the recipient could use it right away or wait until later, for one big purchase or in increments? This year, there are a number of pre-paid payment instruments on the market that fit that description, at least in part. Several card issuers have decided to build on the popularity of similar cards issued by individual stores. The advantage to the new cards, of course, is that shopping options can now be much broader, not restricted to one retailer. The American Express Gift Card is one of these new products, launched just in time for the gift-giving season. Its a prepaid payment instrument in the form of a wallet-size plastic card that has been loaded with spending potential in any of the following amounts: $25, $35, $50, $75, $100, $150, $200, $250, $300, $350, $400, $450 and $500. Each card is embossed with the recipients name and enclosed in a special envelope with a personal message from the gift-giver. The recipient can spend it at a wide range of retailers in the United States that welcome the American Express Card. It can be used either once or a number of times, at the same or different retailers, until the funds are depleted. It is replaceable if lost or stolen. How to Order This new American Express product is available online. Simply click on the link on the Web page devoted to the American Express Gift Card to initiate your purchase. There is a limit of five recipients per order, and a $5.95 fee per card. This fee covers personalization, order processing, shipping and 24-hour toll-free customer service. The card can be sent by U.S. Postal Service first class mail to you, or directly to the recipient, and should arrive within five to eight business days. (Expedited shipping options are also available for an additional fee.) When it arrives, the recipient simply signs it on the back and calls a toll-free number to activate the card. It is valid for two years. Additional details will be found by clicking here. The American Express Gift Card is good at U.S. retailers that welcome the American Express Card, but not at hotels, airlines, car rental agencies, gas stations, restaurants, telecom providers and ATMs. The Be My Guest Dining Card Another prepaid payment product from American Express, Be My Guest, is ideal for the people on your holiday gift list who enjoy dining out. It can be purchased online or by phone (toll-free at 1-888-0150). November 21, 2002
