New York: Always a Great Place to Visit, Now an Even Greater Value

If you haven’t already scheduled a New York City vacation in the coming months, you should take a look at some unusual opportunities available as part of a program called “NYC-Tour-A-Thon.” It’s a way to bring much-needed benefits to the city’s economy at a difficult time and do your own budget a favor at the same time.

Tourism to New York creates a special energy – for residents and visitors alike. People come to the city for all the well-known reasons (theater, restaurants, shopping, museums and so on) New Yorkers provide their special welcome, and everybody benefits. It’s a formula that has worked for years, and it can work this year, too.

Make a Pledge, and Carry It Out

The “NYC-Tour-A-Thon,” announced by the 26,000-member American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) at its 71st World Travel Congress in New York a few weeks ago, builds on the initiative of Sho Dozono, owner of Azumano Travel, who organized a trip to New York City for approximately 1,200 Oregonians over the Columbus Day holiday – a month after the terrorism attack

ASTA attendees were asked to commit to doing something similar at their own agencies, by making a pledge to book at least 10 visitors to New York City in the six months following their meeting. Some of the travel agents went much further, pledging to bring hundreds and, in some cases thousands, of tourists to New York. Before the meeting closed, ASTA members had made pledges totaling 62,559 visitors.

You can join the effort as an individual by pledging to visit New York. Click here for more information.

Tours That Make It Easy

NYC & Company has put together a range of new value priced travel packages available through Feb. 28, 2002, as part of its nationwide “Paint the Town Red, White and Blue” campaign.

Its New York City Freedom Packages, available through March 31, 2002, include accommodations, sightseeing tours, Broadway show tickets and restaurant gift certificates. If you purchase one of these packages, you will also receive a booklet of 350 special value coupons for New York attractions, shops, restaurants, cultural institutions and more.

The American Society of Travel Agents is a travel trade association with over 26,000 members in more than 170 countries.
