AMERICAN EXPRESS COMPANY NAMES NEW TREASURER
NEW YORK, November 17, 2003 -- American Express Company today announced that it has named Paul H. Hough as senior vice president, corporate treasurer, effective immediately. As treasurer, Mr. Hough succeeds Walter S. Berman, who now assumes the role of executive vice president, market risk, and remains chief financial officer of American Express Financial Advisors. Mr. Hough will report to Mr. Berman.
Mr. Hough joined American Express in 1984 as a senior analyst in finance. In subsequent years, he held numerous finance and non-finance positions before assuming his current role as senior vice president, chief financial officer and head of business development for Global Network and Establishment Services and Travelers Cheques and Prepaid Services groups.
As treasurer, Mr. Hough will be responsible for the company's global treasury operations, including short- and long-term funding, asset securitization, market risk management, cash management and capital structure.
Prior to joining American Express, Mr. Hough worked in the audit department of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College, and an MBA from New York University.
