AMERICAN EXPRESS NAMED ‘BEST’ CARD FOR BUSINESS TRAVEL

Business Traveler Magazine Readers Rate American Express as Top Card in Annual Poll; American Express Membership Rewards® Program is Favorite for Eight Years

NEW YORK, November 30, 2004 -- The voting is over, and U.S. and Canadian business travelers have decided which charge card they prefer to carry in their wallets!

In a new poll of 2,000 of its North American readers, Business Traveler magazine said American Express offered the top card for corporate travel, as well as the premier card rewards program. The full results of the magazine’s 16 th annual “Best in Business Travel” survey will be published in its December-January issue.

For the eighth year in a row, the magazine’s readers chose American Express’ Membership Rewards program as their favorite. It is the largest card-based rewards program in the world, with more than 140 redemption partners. Among other benefits, Membership Rewards allows its points to be redeemed for hundreds of rewards in travel, retail shopping, dining and entertainment, experiences and points donations to more than a million charities.

“We’re thrilled that frequent travelers think of American Express as the best payment option” said Anré Williams, Executive Vice President, U.S. Commercial Card, American Express. “What business travelers want in a Card is very simple: the best mix of convenience, security, servicing, and benefits possible.”

"We congratulate American Express on this distinction,” said John DeCesare, Publisher of Business Traveler. “Because they are frequent—and often international—travelers, our subscribers are among the most discerning customers. They want and need help in making their on-the-road life easier and more productive, and they tend to be very enthusiastic collectors of frequent traveler points. American Express has distinguished itself by impressing this group of road warriors.”

The Business Traveler survey, fielded last summer, asked readers to write in the best travel service providers across 30 categories. It included two queries about cards.

The largest percentage of poll respondents cited American Express when asked, “Which one credit card do you consider to be the best credit card?” and “Which one credit card do you consider to have the best credit card rewards program?”.
