AMERICAN EXPRESS COMPANY PLANS LIVE AUDIO WEB ACCESS TO INVESTOR CONFERENCE CALL FOLLOWING SECOND QUARTER EARNINGS ANNOUNCEMENT

NEW YORK, July 17, 2006 -- American Express Company said today that it plans to host a live audio webcast of its investor conference call on Monday, July 24, 2006, at 5:00 pm (ET) to discuss second quarter 2006 financial results, operating performance and other topics that may be raised during the discussion. The company's financial results are scheduled to be announced earlier that day.
