AMERICAN EXPRESS TEAMS WITH BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF AMERICA FOR CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY

Launches Campaign to Support Clubs on a National and Local Level
American Express to Contribute Nearly $1 Million to Organization

NEW YORK, May 08, 2006 -- American Express and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) today announced a multi-faceted program to support the organization during their Centennial anniversary. The program, including contributions to the national organization as well as local Clubs, will help BGCA to achieve its mission of providing a positive place for kids across the country.

As part of the commitment, American Express will donate up to $750,000 to support the organization's goal of providing safe places for children to learn and grow. From June 1st to July 15th, American Express will donate $0.01 of every transaction made at select merchant locations to BGCA. The program will include merchants from cities with a strong BGCA presence including Atlanta, Houston, New York, Phoenix and San Francisco. Donations are not tax deductible for Cardmembers.

Additionally, American Express has launched a website for Cardmembers to make donations directly to BCGA. American Express will contribute $5.00 for every Cardmember donation made (up to a total American Express contribution of $25,000) to assist BGCA in providing programs and services that enhance the learning and development of children in disadvantaged circumstances. To learn more about American Express' partnership with BGCA and to make a donation visit www.mylifemycard.com/bgca. Donations will be accepted through December 13, 2006.

“American Express has for many years been a proud supporter of Boys & Girls Club of America and we share in the celebration of this tremendous milestone,” said Lisa Gregg, vice president, Marketing, American Express Establishment Services. “The work that BCGA carries out across the country has had an immeasurable impact on the lives of children and we are delighted to help that continue into their next hundred years.”

“American Express' long-standing support of our organization has truly had an indelible impact on BCGA at both a national and local level,” said Evan McElroy, national vice president, Marketing and Communications, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “We're honored to have the support of American Express, their merchants and their Cardmembers to continue our work in being The Positive Place for Kids.”

American Express also recently announced the winners of the “My Club's Future” video contest, a program offering Boys & Girls Clubs across the country the opportunity to submit videos with ideas on how to improve their local chapter. One winner was selected from each of the five designated regions across the United States to receive a $5,000 cash award. The following Clubs were selected from more than 105 total entries:

  • Southeast Region – Boys & Girls Club of North Mississippi/Northside Club – Tupelo, MS
  • Northeast Region – Boys & Girls Clubs of Woburn – Woburn, MA
  • Midwest Region – Boys & Girls Club of Dane County/Taft Club – Madison, WI
  • Southwest Region – Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver/Denver Bronco Boys & Girls Club – Denver, CO
  • Pacific Region – Boys & Girls Club of the East Valley/La Mesa Club Mesa, AZ

“At the local level, American Express is pleased to sponsor the ‘My Club's Future' contest,” said Gregg. “Each submission showed incredible creativity in demonstrating the needs of their Club. We know the awards will go a long way in helping to fulfill the specific needs of these Clubs.”
