NEW YORK, November 09, 2006 -- This holiday season it's better to give and receive when purchasing gifts with an American Express® Charge Card. For the first time, Cardmembers will be able to physically include a gift insurance reminder with gifts by downloading the new American Express Gift Insurance Receipt(1). This unique receipt is a new way to remind Cardmembers and inform gift recipients about the benefits of using an American Express Charge Card (Green Card, Gold Card, Platinum Card®, or Centurion® Card) for gift purchases during the holiday shopping season – a high level of customer service and retail protection against stolen or damaged merchandise. The American Express Gift Insurance Receipt is designed to be wrapped with any gift and will be available from November 15 through December 31, 2006 by simply clicking the red gift box on www.800thecard.com.
The Gift Insurance Receipt communicates the protections offered by American Express with the following language:
THIS GIFT COMES WITH A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA
A lot of thought went into this gift, so I want to make sure it's well protected. Because I bought your present with my American Express® Card, it's backed by Buyer Protection Services. So, if it's accidentally damaged or stolen, or if you're dissatisfied and the merchant won't take it back within 90 days of purchase, simply let me know. I can work with American Express to help make it right.
“To help alleviate stress during the holiday shopping season for Cardmembers and gift recipients, we wanted to find an innovative way to reiterate the peace of mind that accompanies using an American Express Charge Card,” said Peggy Maher, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Charge Card, American Express. “The American Express Gift Insurance Receipt does just that. Gifts, decorations or virtually anything else needed this holiday season are covered by our Buyer Protection Services -- Return Protection, Dispute Resolution, Purchase Protection Plan and Buyer's Assurance Plan -- when purchased with an American Express Charge Card.”
Returns -- The manufacturer won't take back your gift?
- Return Protection(2) -- enables Cardmembers to return items purchased with the American Express Card when the merchant won't take it back. If a Cardmember is dissatisfied with any eligible purchase made on the Card (within 90 days from the date of purchase) and the store won't take it back, American Express will refund the Cardmember's account for the full purchase price, up to $300 per item, and up to a maximum of $1,000 annually per Cardmember Account.
- Dispute Resolution -- if Cardmembers disagree with a charge on their statement and are unable to resolve the situation with the merchant, American Express will take responsibility in helping to resolve the dispute fairly.
Dissatisfaction -- Was your gift accidentally damaged after usage? Or perhaps even stolen after you received it?
- Purchase Protection Plan(3) -- provides added protection for accidental damage to or theft of covered items, including clothing, footwear, electronic equipment and miscellaneous accessories such as sunglasses and prescription eyeglasses, purchased with the Card for 90 days from the date of purchase.
- Buyer's Assurance Plan(4) -- extends the terms of the original U.S. manufacturer's warranty on covered products up to one additional year on warranties of five years or less when the entire amount is charged to the Cardmember's Card.
