AMERICAN EXPRESS SERVES UP ULTIMATE US OPEN EXPERIENCE

Company Launches “Courtside with a Champion”; Live Tournament Viewing Events in New York City’s Madison Square Park and Rockefeller Center Back by Popular Demand

NEW YORK, August 16, 2006 -- For the 13th consecutive year, American Express is helping to build excitement for the US Open – both onsite at the USTA National Tennis Center and throughout New York City – with special new offers and familiar favorites.

For the first time ever, American Express® Cardmembers can register daily at the Tennis Center for their chance to sit courtside with US Open champions, including Chris Evert, Monica Seles and Billie Jean King. Winners and their guests will be treated to transportation to and from the Tennis Center, dinner at one of the exclusive Club-level restaurants and courtside-level seats where they will hear first-hand commentary from tennis greats(1).

American Express will again bring the thrill of the game to fans and Cardmembers with US Open Live tournament viewing events at Rockefeller Center and Madison Square Park from Saturday, September 2 through Sunday, September 10. Both locations will be transformed into interactive tennis experiences complete with giant viewing screens, stadium seating, concessions, interactive and pro instruction, player appearances and more, all free, and open to the general public. From avid tennis enthusiasts to friends, family and co-workers looking to get out and enjoy the game together, more than 337,000 people attended last year's viewing events, with even more expected this year.

Benefits and Services for American Express Customers at the US Open

  • American Express Radio Live at the Open: With a free radio, Cardmembers can watch the match live while listening to the CBS/USA Network broadcasts and for the first time ever, take the radio home with them for later use(2).
  • Free MetroCard: After a fun day at the Open, Cardmembers can receive a $2 MetroCard compliments of American Express every day of the Open(3).
  • Use points to buy tickets: Cardmembers enrolled in the Membership Rewardsâ program can use points to purchase tickets to the US Open. To purchase tickets: Call 1-866-OPEN-TIX or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
  • Commemorative Andy Roddick or Venus Williams pin: Charge a cumulative $75 or more at any on-site US Open merchandise vendor, restaurant or concession stand on the American Express Card (or at the US Open Store at www.usopen.org) and receive a commemorative pin(4).

On-site Benefits for All US Open Attendees

  • Pedicab rides: American Express offers free pedicab rides on the boardwalk between the Willets-Point Subway station and the East Gate entrance of the Tennis Center(5).
  • US Open Guest Information: Comprehensive tournament information, along with on-site restaurant and transportation assistance, will help all attendees make the most of their experience at the Tennis Center.

American Express ACES Program
American Express will also continue the company's ACES program where for every ace served during match play throughout the US Open, the Company will donate funds to the USTA Tennis & Education Foundation's “Aces for Kids” initiative in support of the development of grassroots tennis programs around the country. American Express will donate $100 for every ace served in Arthur Ashe Stadium. This builds on the SUMMER of ACES currently going on as part of the US Open Series where American Express is donating $50 per ace served on the main court of each tournament. The ACES Program has raised more than $725,000 globally since its inception in 2004.
